Castellar Zoo

I decided to take my daughter to Castellar Zoo as I thought it would be a nice day out for her and I could teach her about the animals. I love animals myself and althought I know a zoo is not the best place for them I have up till now only been to well kept zoos where the animals have plenty of space to roam around and are well treated by their keepers. Hence I was not only disappointed but shocked when I arrived in Castellar Zoo.

Castellar Zoo resembles a run down prison like area with a variety of monkeys, birds of all sizes, coatis, lions (in terrible condition), a lonley puma that has lost his mind in a tiny glass cage, crocodiles, lynx, snakes and spiders, lamas and some other african dear in tiny cages with no grass or shrubbery just a dirty muddy floor. The animals looked all so miserable that rather than having a nice time out we all felt very sad. My daughter who was excited at first wanted to turn round and go home after 5 minutes and my husband was so annoyed I dragged them there decided to wait in the car. Since I paid 25 euros for the experience I wanted to see the rest of the Zoo, hoping it would get better, but I am afraid it didnt.

The whole zoo was a building site apparently due to works to improve the zoo. I thought this was odd for the peak season in August but I really do hope something is done to improve the state of this zoo. I however wont come back to check.
