For sure one of the best nights we had here so far. San Roque Feria is in full swing. The procession from the Lion of San Roque right into the town centre started at 9:30pm. All of the local kids were dressed in typical andalucian dress, from baby’s to teenagers, all waiting for the endeless procession to pass them by. From pony kids, to horse men, from mickey mouse floats, to asterix’s, from big bugs to monster’s, from butterflies to ants, from squid to fish, from princess to queens this procession was the best I have seen so far.

The kids were screaming with delight and millions of sweeties and baloons were thrown from the floats. After the lenghty procession we ventured down to the casitas where the horsemen were served refreshments still on their horses back which was a truly lovely scene.

Since we had kids in tow, we headed for the fairground which was smaller than in La Linea but had fun for all ages. From bumper cars, scary rides, shooting booths to baby train, all the kids had fun and we were finally allowed to hit the Cespa tent where we had drinks and food for a more than reasonable price. Typical spanish fare such as fried fish, squid, prawns, pinchitos was served and it all was delicious.

To round of the evening we went to the churreria on the square overlooking the feria and all ate churros con chocolate as the tradition demands.

The feria in San Roque continues until Sunday, but if you missed this wonderful evening book it into your diary now for 2009 as it’s unforgettable.
